‘Abide’ for Music Masters Many Voices project

March will see the premiere of a new piece for music education charity Music Masters at London’s Wigmore Hall – they’ve commissioned ten composers to work with primary school-age students on a new piece for beginner/intermediate string ensemble. I ran a workshop at Jubilee Primary School near Brixton where I worked with nine- and ten-year olds, gathering material generated by them and turning it into a finished piece – Abide – playable by string ensembles from Grade 4 and upwards, including professionals.

All ten pieces will be premiered at Wigmore Hall on 17 March, by Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective and students and alumni of Music Masters. They’ll also be recorded together for NMC and published as a set by Composers Edition.

The other composers are by Sonia Allori, Blasio Kavuma, James MacMillan, Tom Poster, Jasmin Kent Rodgman, Abel Selaocoe, Aileen Sweeney, Ruta Vitkauskaite and Roderick Williams.
