Solo works for Nicolas Altstaedt & Fenella Humphreys
Two pieces of mine for solo string instruments will be premiered this Spring and Summer:
——-
Craftsmen & Clowns for solo cello will be premiered by Nicolas Altstaedt at L’Auditori in Barcelona on 19 April 2026, and he will be giving its UK premiere at the Aldeburgh Festival on 16 June. In Aldeburgh he’ll be performing it alongside Britten’s Cello Sonata and, with other performers, works by Birtwistle and Shostakovich.
It was commissioned by Royal Philharmonic Society.

I’m also adding to my ongoing series of Études for solo violin, writing Nos. 7 & 8 for Fenella Humphreys, who is premiering at London’s Wigmore Hall in a late night concert on 12 June. Fenella made the premiere recording of my Études 1-4 in 2022.
She’ll be premiering the new pieces in a wide-ranging programme, including two of my previous études (Nos. 1 & 3), and plenty of contemporary and 17th-/18th-century music.
